Cost Plust FAQ

COST PLUS FAQ

1.    Why can you not use my insurance for my medications?

A: The pharmacy benefit manager (the middleman between us and your insurance) dictates what we can charge and how much we get paid to fill a prescription and how much your insurer pays them. The smoke and mirror game is one the primary causes for high drug prices in this country. Often the total we get reimbursed does not even cover the cost of the medication or any of the time, supplies, or other overhead to dispense the medication. We have decided not to put up with the smoke and mirrors games the PBM’s play and provide a fair and transparent pricing structure, so you know exactly where your money is going and who you are supporting in this community.

2.    What is this cost plus model and how much will it cost me?

A: Cost plus is a transparent medication pricing structure. Our pricing for your non-controlled  medications is straight forward in that we take the cost we paid for the medication add a 15% markup and a $10 dispensing fee. For example, a 90 day supply of lisinopril 10mg might cost us $1.00. Your cost at our pharmacy would be $1.00 + 15% ($0.15) + $10 = $11.15.
Due the additional time and legal requirements needed to dispense controlled medications our pricing is our cost plus a 100% markup and a $10 dispensing fee. For example a 30 day supply fo zolpidem 10mg would be $2 + 100% ($2) + $12 dispensing fee = $16

3.    You offer a membership, what does that entail?

A: At Salida Pharmacy and Fountain we offer two different levels of membership, Platinum and Standard.  Membership provides access to discounts, cheaper medications, and free clinical services. The Simple Step Platinum plan provides access to over 400+ medications at no charge plus discounted rates on more expensive medications. In addition to all the benefits of the Standard plan. If you don’t take many medications the Standard plan might be a better fit for you. This plan provides discounts on our soda fountain, vitamins/supplements, and gifts. You also have access to many of our clinical services for no additional charge or a large discount. The price for a Premium membership is $49/month and the Standard is $25/month.

Membership Drug Pricing
NADAC Cost $0-$6  = $0 Copay
NADAC Cost $6 - $15 = $15 Copay
NADAC Cost $15 - $30 = $25 Copay
NADAC > $30 = NADAC + $12 dispensing fee

4.    What if I have an expensive brand name drug?

A: While nearly 90% of the most commonly prescribed medications are generic we understand that sometimes a brand name medication is needed. In that case our pharmacy team can assist in finding any patient assistance or coupon cards that might be available for the medication. Unfortunately, we might have to advice you take your prescription for the brand name medication to another pharmacy that can bill your insurance.

5.    What about vaccines?

A: Both membership plans include a Free flu vaccine and discounts of up to $30 on other vaccines such as COVID, Tetanus (Tdap), Shingrix, RSV, and more.
